Ferrari Enzo Successor On Its Way

It’s been eight years (that long?) since the Ferrari Enzo went out of production, and it is high time for a new Ferrari mid-engined model to take its place. Once again, it will be a limited-production deal, swooping in to fill the top spot at Ferrari for a set run. That a contrast to Lamborghini, which has an exclusive mid-engined lineup with the soon-to-be-replaced Gallardo and Aventador. The flagship at Ferrari for now is the new F12 Berlinetta, which was just introduced at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. According to Ferrari, the F12 Berlinetta 740 horsepower offers power akin to a Formula One race car. It is the fastest, most powerful road-going Ferrari ever. It won’t hold onto that title for too long though, with the mid-engine Enzo successor on its way. So far we’ve heard tidbits about it here and there, btu via Autoweek we are clued in on a timeline. Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo confirmed to AW that the new range topper will be shown by the end of this year. Not at an auto show, mind you, but to a group of current and future owners interested in the vehicle. As for a public debut, the car could debut at either the North American International Auto Show next January or Geneva in March. Montzemolo says “We want to surprise people not just in terms of price but also with the car itself.” A worthy goal to be sure. The unnamed (Enzo isn’t in the cards) mid-engined supercar will be powered by a naturally-aspirated Ferrari V-12, making use of a carbon fiber body to save weight. Rumors have swirled about things like a hybrid drivetrain and a Kinetic Energy Recovery System like F1, but it isn’t clear what will make it to the final result. One thing you can be sure about; the new car will be the ultimate expression of Ferrari design, technology and performance.
