2012 Geneva Motor Show: Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera Win the European Car of the Year 2012 title

At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, a panel of as many as 59 judges decided the European “Car of the Year 2012”. This is the first time the winner of the title is chosen at the Geneva Motor Show. Opel Ampera and the Chevrolet Volt electric cars won the title by scoring 330 points. The cars from American manufacturer scored more points than the Ford Focus (256 points) and Volkswagen Up (281 points). 35 cars were seen competing against each other and seven of these had made it to the finals. The cars were being judged and voted as per the comfort, performance, design, efficiency and technological innovation they offered.This award was received by Chevrolet President and Managing Director for Europe Susan Docherty and Opel/Vauxhall CEO Karl-Fredrich Stracke. “Our car demonstrates that electric driving can be fun and reliable without ever compromising the owners’ lifestyle,It is a proud moment for us and an honor to receive this award from Europe’s leading jury of automotive journalists.” Docherty said. The 2 winning entries already have a collection of awards such as the “North American Car of the Year 2011” award, full 5 stars rating from Euro NCAP and the “World Green Car of the Year 2011” awards.
